NEWS - Children in need challenge raises £400
Welcome to the King Henry's Taverns site!
"We've been in business over 20 years and our motto has always been 'Good Food at Sensible Prices'. We don't pretend to be restaurants. We are PUBS, NOT RESTAURANTS and this is reflected in our prices.
We are often asked, how did we come by name King Henrys Taverns? The answer lies back in the 16th Century. King Henry the Eighth left a bequest to the village of Bitteswell so they could provide a 'MAN AT ARMS' at times of war. The Dowse charity still exists today although it hasn't been used to provide a soldier for nearly a hundred years. The pub used to be known as The New Royal Oak, but in 1948 was changed to THE MAN AT ARMS, in recognition of King Henry's bequest. We suspect many people think our pubs are named after him because we have become famous for our big steaks and mixed grills and he had a reputation as a big eater. Not so at all. Yes, we do have some great meals for those with a larger appetite, but we also have a large range of healthy options, fresh fish and of course you can swap chips for salad or potatoes, or vice versa - it's up to you.
We hope you have a good time when you next visit a King Henrys Taverns. If you don't, we certainly need to know about it! If you do then please, also let us know as only by listening to you, the customers, can we get it right. There are reply paid comments slips readily available at all of our pubs, so let us know what you think. Finally, don't forget to come back to this site on a regular basis as there are always special offers exclusively for visitors to this site!
Looking forward to seeing you soon!
